Vintage Bell Sterling and Turquoise Dainty Pendant-
Jack Michelson and his wife Mildred founded Bell Trading Post in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1932. The name of the business was chosen in homage to Mildred Michelson’s maiden name: Bell. From the onset, Bell Trading Post’s mission was to market southwestern style jewelry to tourist locations in competition with Maisel’s Indian Trading Post. The rivalry between these companies was fierce. Bell sold jewelry crafted of copper, sterling silver, and nickel silver (an alloy that does not contain enough silver to be deemed sterling). Some gold-plated jewelry was marketed as well. Both imitation turquoise and genuine turquoise were used in embellishing their pieces.
